Tsutenkaku Tower

This is my 3rd blog post covering the events of my day with Emai-san and Mizu-san (see the past 2 blog posts for the rest).

After visiting the Osaka Museum of Housing and Living, we visited one last attraction, a landmark if you will. Introducing, Tsutenkaku Tower in Osaka!

Tsutenkaku literally translates to "Tower Reaching Heaven", which is a pretty accurate description because this tower is enormous, 103 meters tall to be exact.

This tower is actually the second tower to be built in this location. The original Tsutenkaku Tower was built here in 1912 as part of an amusement park. In 1943, the tower was severely damaged by a fire, and instead of repairing the structure, the tower was dismantled for its iron during WWII.

The second Tsutenkaku Tower was first opened in 1956, ans since then, it has become an icon of Osaka.

For a small admission fee, you can take an elevator to the observation deck of the tower where you can get a spectacular view of Osaka from above.

In the obsevation deck, there is this statue. I have no idea what it's for, but apparently it has become a local tradition to rub the feet of this statue for good luck.

A big "Thank you" to Emai-san and Mizu-san for the amazing day that they had provided me!
