Osaka Castle (Osaka-jo)

Last Saturday, my hosst brother and I took a trip to go visit the famous Osaka Castle! Located in downtown Osaka, Osaka Castle (originally named "Osaka-jo") is situated on a plot of land that is about 15 acres large. It's a BIG castle. The main tower is an icon of Osaka and Japan as a whole.

The original castle was built during the 16th century, and has a long history of destruction and rebuilding. The main tower has been burned down multiple times, collapsed, struck by lightning, bombed during WW2, and laid under seige. The last restoration of the castle was in 1995.

Inside the castle, there is a large museum that has exhibits full of artifacts and painted murals that depict Osaka Castle's long and dramatic history. On the top floor of the museum is the observation deck which provides an amazing view of modern day Osaka.

The main tower.

This is the view from the observation deck at the top of the main tower.

It's very high up.

Amazing!
My host brother, Takehiro.
